Lost piglet Fia finds comfort and hospitality with Hedgehog and her friend Pig. The next day they find Fia's relieved mama at her bakery and thus earn a reward of one hundred sweet rolls (though why Mama's baking while her child is missing is unclear). The rhymes falter, but readers will enjoy Anderson's delicate watercolor illustrations depicting the animals' cozy environs.

Hedgehog is so busy cooking and cleaning, she has no time for the friends who come visiting. Finally, she reveals the secret reason for her preparations: she has a new baby, and she wants everyone to help celebrate. The rhyming text is often clumsy and strained; however, the delicately colored illustrations, which hint at the unusual surprise, are easy on the eye.

At the beginning of this counting book, Hedgehog is by herself, "feeling very lonely." One by one, nine friends, including a teddy bear, a frog, and a toddler, join her, and they all have tea. The rhyming text is sometimes awkward and forced, though Anderson's softly colored artwork ably depicts the crowd of creatures at the table.

Hedgehog, Duck, Elephant, and Pig spend the day with their grown-up rabbit friend Will in a counting book that also introduces telling time. Their adventures take them through a 1:00 trip to the park, a 4:00 snack, a 10:00 romp, and finally to midnight, when only Will is asleep. Gentle watercolors reflect Will's gentle care of these funny, tender, quite human characters.
