I Like to Read series.
Frog tries to help Peeper, a bird with a broken wing, and Zeep, an alien with a broken spaceship, regain flight: "Peeper and Zeep go up. / Peeper and Zeep go down. / Frog will try again." Eventually their families come looking for them, and they all live happily together. The simple sentences and offbeat, naively styled illustrations explore themes of perseverance, friendship, and belonging.

Dogs Ping and Pong are pals, but they like to do different things. While Ping pretends to be a superhero, Pong naps--until Super-Ping needs help. Using typical easy-reader structure, repetition, and vocabulary, this book brings in themes of friendship, imagination, and creativity while also playing with ideas of sameness and difference. The simple ink and digital illustrations are refreshingly clutter-free.

A little girl and her cat play together from breakfast until bedtime. In the clutter-free illustrations, solid background colors bring to the front the spare, childlike drawings made from simple shapes and outlined in black. Rhyme and alliteration ("Stump jumping. / Leaf leaping. /Slip sliding") make for a playful beginners' read.
