A die-cut square frames an illustration of one foot; a flip of the page reveals two feet. A square frames one mouse; a page flip reveals three mice. On it goes so pleasantly that young readers aren't likely to notice that they're getting an English lesson; to wit: sometimes there's more to pluralizing a noun than tacking on an s.

Fed up with comparisons (he has his brother's hair, his uncle's head for numbers, etc.), Percival runs off, and his family's various body parts go missing, too. Meanwhile, his grandparents, who "always saw him as himself," show him family albums that prove there's "a little bit of everyone in everybody." The story's a bit long, but the art manages to be engagingly silly while clearly conveying family resemblances.

One night, a tiny seed sprouts in Billy's dirty belly button. By morning, he must wear heavy clothes to hide the bushy plant, and by afternoon it is too big to conceal. His parents rush him to the doctor to figure out how to get rid of the plant. This cautionary tale of a boy who wouldn't bathe is told in pedestrian rhyme, but the cartoon-like illustrations add humor.

Through her mother's accidental bid at a charity auction, a young girl wins an autographed Wayne Gretzky hockey stick. A consistent, although sometimes stiff rhyme tells how the new stick helps the girl in her hockey game while Gretzky's scoring falters. Sacrificing her prized possession, the girl returns the stick to her hero, who thankfully, gets his game back. Cartoonlike illustrations accompany the slight tale.
