Jody despairs of ever growing closer to his distant father, but when he travels back in time to 1958 and befriends his father as a boy, he gains some insight into Dad's personality. Though the time travel device is shaky, and the novel contains some unanswered questions, Jody's trip back to a kinder, gentler era is quietly intriguing and the characterizations are solid.
