Tudor's Caldecott Honor–winning counting book makes an acceptable, if marginal, board book. Tudor's delicate illustrations are a bit difficult to make out in the smaller format, but the simplicity of the counting rhyme (from one to twenty) makes this suitable for the audience.

Corgiville, a country village, bustles with holiday activity. In a series of festive vignettes, dogs, rabbits, and cats sip tea, shop for gifts, and attend skating parties. The animals are reminiscent of Beatrix Potter's, though rendered with a less precise brush. Cozy and old-fashioned, this book is based on memories of Tudor's 1920s childhood and populated by characters modeled on her pets and her children's dolls.

Tudor's counting book makes an acceptable, if marginal, board book. This abridged edition contains the first half of the original Caldecott Honor book: from one to ten. Tudor's delicate illustrations are a bit more difficult to make out in the smaller format, but the simplicity of the counting rhyme and the clarity of the images makes this suitable for the audience.

Evoking a time gone by, these two simply told, delicately illustrated volumes celebrate holiday pleasures. In Easter, a little girl notices all the signs that Easter is near--dress hemming, hot cross buns, and a dream about rabbits and ducklings. In Pumpkin, Sylvie Ann finds a perfect jack-o'-lantern pumpkin in the field, but getting it home for carving proves to be an adventure.

In these old-fashioned books, Annabelle's wardrobe includes a muff and a tippet, among other outdated accessories, and the seasonal activities featured in Around the Year are decidedly turn-of-the-century rural. However, these are precisely the details that draw many people to Tudor's work. The illustrations alternate between black-and-white sketches and watercolor scenes. [Review covers A Is for Annabelle: A Doll's Alphabet, and Around the Year.]

When Christmastime rolls around, even a family's dolls have an opportunity to create a magical, festive celebration--with a little help from their young mistresses, of course. The sweet, old-fashioned text is accompanied by watercolor illustrations with a similar tone. An extensive note from the author explains the origins of the tradition of creating a dolls' Christmas and its meaning for her own family.

Published spring 1998. Tudor brings together a collection of quotations from various authors, including Shakespeare, Thoreau, and Emerson, expressing their thoughts about joy. Each provides a showplace for Tudor's delightful, old-fashioned watercolors of children, animals, and nature. Although many of the quotations may be somewhat sophisticated for young children, Tudor fans will be pleased with the reissue.
