(3) K-3 Illustrated by John Alcorn. Introduction by Steven Alcorn. This paean to the art of writing, originally published abroad in 1964 and definitely a product of the psychedelic sixties, celebrates the beauty and power of the written word, encouraging children to write: a poem, a story, a song, a letter. Both the sometimes-surreal illustrations (with their neon pinks and oranges) and the inventive typography are attention-getting and distinctive.
