The adult narrator, addressing a child, imagines being an adult animal taking care of its offspring ("If you were a calf, then I'd be a moose," and so on). Rhyming text identifies the names of each animal and its baby and includes an unscientific fact about how that parent cares for its child. Colorful collage illustrations on sturdy cardstock pages add interest to the otherwise slight story.
