All Your Own Teeth

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Cathy Gale. Stewart wants a wild animal with "all [its] own teeth" to model for his paintings. He systematically insults and rejects each candidate until the final one, a crocodile, eats the rude painter. The animals are appealing, and, while the ending is poorly set up and comes off as a little abrupt, Stewart's comeuppance is richly deserved. The busy, almost frenetic mixed-media art employs a lush pastel palette.
