Morgan supplies plenty of atmosphere in this tale based on Alfred Noyes's ballad. Will is on the run when he meets highwayman's daughter Bess and army deserter Henry. Hardly a day goes by without a chase or skirmish in a plot that's packed with action. Will's old-fashioned first-person narrative successfully connects the tale with its literary roots.
