Katharine Wright was both independent (she graduated from college, worked as a teacher) and obligated to her family (she cared for her father, acted as her famous brothers' secretary). Her biography remains sketchy, but Maurer fills in the gaps with sections on her brothers' accomplishments, legitimized by the subtitle but resulting in a bifurcation of her story. This handsome book is illustrated with archival photos. Bib., ind.
