The no-nonsense woman first introduced in Aunt Minnie McGranahan keeps everything and everyone under her roof in firm, loving order. Then a tornado turns her house topsy-turvy--literally--but this event, like most on Aunt Minnie's Kansas farm, becomes a blessing in the end. The homespun text and unpretentious cartoon artwork present a 1920s family that is resolutely upbeat.

Minnie McGranahan is neat and tidy and has a precise system for everything. When her brother's nine children are orphaned in 1920, no one thinks she'll be able to handle them. It's Minnie's system, full of laughter and hugs, however, that allows them all to thrive. The joyful, lively line in the watercolor illustrations reflects the organized confusion of the McGranahan household.
