Once again, a Bierhorst collection is uncompromising and inviting, scholarly and accessible, otherworldly and down-to-earth. Unlike European fairies with their reputation for malevolence or at least trickery, the "little people" in the twenty-two brief tales assembled here from throughout the Americas are benevolent beings, dangerous only to those who would transgress the goodness offered.
