I Rock My Hair: Pretty and Protected by the CROWN Act

(4) PS A young Black girl wants to hide her thick tresses after they draw a lot of attention, making her self-conscious. But her grandmother encourages her to love her “fluffy hair,” and the child becomes an activist against hair discrimination. While the rhyme scheme is a little uneven and some of the digital illustrations are a bit cartoonish, the text is empowering, and illustrations of popular African American hairstyles such as Afro puffs and braids are affirming. Information about the CROWN act is appended.
