This book closely chronicles the invention and distribution of the mechanical grain reaper, the formation of a million-dollar business, and the fierce rivalries that developed at home and abroad. Little attention is paid to McCormick's personal life, which is in keeping with his character but prevents him from emerging as a complete person.
