Latinos in the Limelight series.
The formulaic books in this series profile well-known Latinos in the arts. After a chapter about the subject's childhood and early years, each book provides basic background information about the individual's career. The quality of the photos is uneven, but fans will be interested in these offerings. Each book includes a chronology and a list of accomplishments. Bib., ind. Unlocking the Secrets of Science series.
Although these books lack documentation for quotations, they reliably relate the contributions of their subjects to science and technology. The authors begin with a pivotal anecdote, then follow a chronological path through the men's lives and contextualize their discoveries and inventions. Black-and-white photos supplement the texts. Building History series.
A history of the Globe Theatre includes information on its construction, the mechanics of special effects, some of the plays performed there, its rebuilding after a fire, and its ultimate demolition for public housing. An epilogue notes the Globe's reconstruction and opening in 1996. Black-and-white photos and engravings enhance the book, but the design is dull. Bib., ind.
