Snap Books: It's Haunted! series.
These attractively designed stories of hauntings, communiques from the dead, and cursed objects will appeal to horror fans and may scare more gullible readers. Although "skeptics" are briefly mentioned, the creepy stories are slanted toward believers, without much proof to bolster the claims. Each entry is accompanied by a crisp color photo. Reading list. Glos., ind. Review covers these Snap Books: It's Haunted! titles: Haunted Houses Around the World and Haunted Objects Around the World.

Edge Books: Real-Life Zombies series.
With their brief, gruesome descriptions of how parasites and parasitoids prey upon their victims, these books will appeal to those who like their nonfiction grisly. Unfortunately, the color photographs, while plentiful, are often difficult to decipher. The page design incorporates sidebars, multiple fonts, and loud graphics seemingly intended to inspire fear and awe but which only further the visual clutter. Reading list. Glos., ind. Review covers these Edge Books: Real-Life Zombies titles: Body Snatchers and Brain Eaters.

Profiles series.
Although the writing is dry and the black-and-white photos are often poorly reproduced, this volume features an interesting array of contemporary women leaders--Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thatcher, Corazón Aquino, Benazir Bhutto, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro, and Gro Harlem Brundtland. A final chapter provides brief biographies of additional women leaders. The book will be useful for student reports and research. Bib., ind.
