This time around, hamster-of-all-trades Stanley (Stanley's Garage and others) is a teacher at his very own school (enrollment: three animal tots). Lap sitters will enjoy watching a typical preschool classroom's action unfold, including Stanley reading to his students and overseeing a messy painting project; they'll also have no quibble with the spotless digital art throughout, in which Stanley wears a jaunty, green mortarboard befitting his station.

Apparently, hamster Stanley (Stanley's Garage, et al.) can't hold down a job--fortunately for the reader. He's been a mechanic, a mailman, and more; now he's running a grocery store, where his duties include giving mouse customer Myrtle and her many-carts-worth of cheese a ride home. Bee again offers a gently entertaining introduction to a profession, and his flat, chunky art looks good enough to eat.

Dog Migloo's (Migloo's Day) busy weekend culminates in his rescue of a movie star at the Sunnytown Fair. Search-and-find fans will rejoice at (or be overwhelmed by) the challenge of finding the innumerable details and visual stories packed into Bee's full-spread illustrations. One can participate on different levels, however, from simply enjoying Migloo's cheery story to painstakingly combing the book for the listed items.

A new Stanley book means another chance to watch the ultra-mellow hamster demonstrate yet another profession: this time, he's delivering mail by scooter. The simple premise and tidy illustrations are just right for the Maisy crowd, but the older set will smile at some of Stanley's encounters (e.g., because Hattie's mail includes a speeding ticket, she grumbles, "Thanks a lot, Stanley").

In Stanley's (Stanley's Garage, etc.) latest ultra-mellow offering, the hamster goes about a typical day at his diner and then jazzes things up by "baking a special cake. Who could it be for?" The low-key plotting, squarish format, and thickly outlined illustrations in flat colors favorably recall Lucy Cousins's books about mouse Maisy, who may have met in Stanley her congenial match.

In this super-detailed search-and-find book, Migloo the farm dog spends an eventful day in Sunnytown. While following the story, readers can search for Migloo and try to answer Bee's questions about his busy, intricate two-page compositions. However, even search-and-find fans will need sharp eyes and a great deal of patience to hunt for the multitude of objects listed at the end.

Albert enters his pet monster into the Best Pet Monster in the World Competition, but Sidney is too clean, kind, and timid to win any of the categories and instead is awarded Worst in Show. The conceit is silly and offbeat, and the story follows a vague pattern for each contest category. The illustrations have an old-timey vibe with hints of Sendak's influence.

When Digger Dog gets the scent of "something BIG" underground, he first grabs his trusty shovel, then a compact digging machine...then an excavator...etc. The surprise: the bone belongs to a gigantic dinosaur skeleton. Bee's text is great fun to read aloud; the repetition will encourage audience participation. Johansson's genial illustrations feature colorful polka-dot embellishments, good use of white space, and several foldouts.

"Here is the traffic, all ground to a halt, / and the policeman calls out... / 'What's causing this holdup?'" The vehicles may be at a standstill, but the rhythmic text motors along as the officer investigates the problem. Bee's stylish compositions have a distinctly sixties vibe; the pages practically vibrate with eye-popping colors held in place with a lively, sure-handed line.

Sweet Mrs. Collywobbles is scared of the woods near her house. Luckily, she has a ferocious guard...frog. Monsters are gobbled one after another until Mrs. Collywobbles is safe, but it turns out that the frog might need some protecting, too. Readers will delight in the story's offbeat humor. Bee's blocky pen-and-ink and digital illustrations have a retro charm.

Each double-page spread fits one train car with its own distinct ridership. The train clickerty-clicks on while a parrot, revealed at book's end, takes it all in. The flat, digitally enhanced pen-and-ink art is glorious: the practical red and green of the station and train are set against a carefree sky blue; each tableau is decorated with exquisitely particular details.
