Who HQ: Who Was...? series.
Illustrated by
Joseph J. M. Qiu.
Grosset's long-running Who Was...? series is re-branded. These readable, informative biographies are marred only by the caricatured cover illustrations (typical of the classic series) and interior pencil illustrations that are inconsistent in style. Otherwise, these will give young readers a good sense of who these people were (or are). Occasional full- and double-page text boxes successfully illuminate related topics. Timeline. Bib. Review covers these Who HQ: Who Was...? titles: Who Was Jane Austen?, Who Was Chuck Jones?, Who Was Coretta Scott King?, Who Is Ralph Lauren?Who Was Alexander Hamilton?, Who Was Lewis Carroll?, Who Is Pope Francis?, and Who Was Andrew Jackson?.

All Aboard Science Reader series.
Illustrated by
Lisa Bonforte
&
Lisa Bonforte.
A broad variety of pony basics--breeds, markings, care and feeding, gaits, pony communication--is covered in this straightforward easy reader. Unfortunately, the art is bland and lacking in definition and detail, although some attempt was made to match the text's descriptions. Despite the tendency to skip around among various topics, the book's transitions create a unified narrative.

Two bear cubs are born during the cold winter and grow to maturity alongside their mother. They learn to fish, to fight, and to play together. Comparisons between bears and humans are made clear in text and artwork, and although it becomes hard to distinguish the cubs from their mother by the final illustrations, the facts should interest the intended audience.
