Illustrated by
William Goldsmith.
This creatively rendered biography-in-comics, with Muir's imagined voice as narrator, is filled with the naturalist's adventures, from his childhood in Scotland to his pioneering conservation work and formation of America's National Parks. Illustrator Goldsmith's Muir is a feisty character, portrayed in loose pencil sketches with one or two accent colors. Vibrant spreads in the chapter transitions and interludes capture the stunning landscapes in which Muir found his purpose. Timeline. Glos.

In the drowned world of the near future, Mara (Exodus) continues to lead her people (now including the refugees and former slaves of the gilded sky city) north toward land, while Fox, her love, deals with the loneliness of being left behind. The timely environmentalist premise and vivid post-apocalyptic setting don't fully compensate for the story's gaps in logic.

In 2100, oceans engulf the earth. After her tiny island is submerged, fifteen-year-old Mara leads her community to an elevated city surrounded by dying refugees. Denied entry above, she joins a counterculture living in the wreckage below and seeks answers in cyberspace. Despite slightly wooden characters and overwrought prose, the vividly detailed post-apocalyptic setting is both fascinating and challenging.
