Though a bit too broad, these global surveys look at domestic violence, charities, and slavery and examine their effects on young people. Boxed quotations, personal profiles, and provocative "Talking point" sidebars ("Do you think it is ever right for children to work for a living?") add texture, as do the occasionally staged-looking color and black-and-white photos. These books maintain an international focus and an optimistic outlook in their coverage of five long-standing social-justice issues.
