(4) YA Kahlen became a Siren after the Ocean saved her from drowning. Eighty years later, when Kahlen breaks the rules and falls in love with human Akinli, she knows the Ocean will punish them both. The love interest is too perfect and tension doesn't build until late in the story, but Cass's fans will be satisfied by this gentle romance.

(4) YA Selection series. Only six boys remain in Princess Eadlyn's Selection, but what if her true love isn't among them? Meanwhile, Eadlyn is also dealing with political unrest as regent of Illéa while Queen America recovers from a heart attack. Although relationships and motivations are less than original, series fans will be thrilled by the tidy fairy-tale conclusion that proves love conquers all.

(4) YA Selection series. As a scheme to distract a discontented post-caste populace, future ruler Eadlyn (daughter of America, the protagonist from the previous three books) begrudgingly agrees to participate in a husband-finding Selection. Eadlyn's plan to thwart the historic matchmaking process backfires as she befriends the candidates and opens up. Discrimination issues are overshadowed as the self-determined girl learns she must loosen up to become a well-rounded leader.

(4) YA Selection series. Illustrated by Suy Sandra. Several vignettes set before and during events of Cass's Selection series provide windows into the romantic lives of other characters, including Amberly, Maxon, Aspen, and Marlee. Some of the stories and chapters end abruptly, and while series fans will be happy, newcomers will be confused by the lack of background information. Nonspecific black-and-white illustrations of attractive men and women in lavish formalwear are included.

(3) YA Tension drives this exciting final installment (The Selection; The Elite): Prince Maxon must finally choose a wife, and America and the other three remaining competitors are all vying for his heart. While America's complex relationship with Maxon continues, the political subplot's larger role in their lives refreshingly raises the stakes. Cass keeps readers guessing about the Selection's outcome until the dramatic conclusion.

(3) YA Protagonist America Singer is now one of six "Elite" girls in the competition to become Prince Maxon's wife, but moral and romantic challenges jeopardize her continued participation. This second novel (The Selection) dwells on America's indecisiveness, but interesting ethical issues and intensifying political unrest add depth to the "who will he choose?" aspect of the series, enticing fans back for the finale.

(3) YA Stubborn, independent, musically talented teen America Singer reluctantly enters the Selection, competing with thirty-four girls to become Prince Maxon's wife. By the dramatic close of this first series installment, both a love triangle and a tense political situation emerge. TV's The Bachelor meets caste-based future dystopia in this original, addictive, and well-written novel.
