Retold by Martin Jenkins.
Illustrated by
Chris Riddell.
This retelling of the exploits of knight errant Don Quixote and his faithful squire Sancho Panza, from fighting giants (that are actually windmills) to praising the virtues of Dulcinea del Toboso, is true to the spirit of the original. Riddle's cartoonish illustrations, juxtaposing reality and Don Quixote's imagination, add a sense of whimsy to the weighty, thoughtfully designed volume.

Don Quixote receives comic-book treatment in this adaptation of Cervantes' Spanish classic. Full-color paneled drawings and straightforward storytelling laced with comic asides follow Don Quixote's adventures as he changes from a figure of ridicule to one of ultimate nobility. Somewhat choppily abbreviated, this retelling provides an entertaining introduction to the classic.
