Ever since her mother's unexpected departure from their lighthouse home on the Hudson River, Louise has remained convinced that one day soon she will return. While at times the plot seems overly dramatic, Louise's reaction to her parents' separation resonates truthfully. Details about the role of the lighthouse keeper in the 1930s are woven somewhat awkwardly into the story.
