This picture book employs songs and lines from the Broadway retelling of J. M. Barrie's beloved story. The lyrics are woven into the narrative (not always fluidly), and a link to listen to the songs online is appended; children interested in musicals will relish the opportunity to sing along. Bates's feather-light paintings make this a pretty, appropriately dreamy-looking package.

Stepping on one another's noses, toes, necks, and tails, the zoo animals are demanding to be let out of their cramped quarters. The text, song lyrics from the 1960s musical Do Re Mi, doesn't quite work as well when spoken. Frantic cartoon-style illustrations are packed with graphics that emphasize the congestion. Occasional gatefolds add to the frenzy.
