"The Smon Smon live on the planet Gon Gon." The ensuing story, about sharing resources, teems with double "-on" words ("The Smon Smon hangs its last ron ron next to its won won on a lon lon and floats away in a ton ton"). Readers patient with the gimmick will see that the fabulous, Bosch-evoking illustrations illuminate the nonsense words' meanings.

A lengthy, straightforward text describes how Tony donates his beloved stuffed animals for an animal shelter fundraiser; his mother rewards Tony's care with a real pet cat, Valentine, from the shelter. Danowski's beautifully detailed, realistic pictures in soft, muted colors are the highlight of this picture book.
