Louis the lemur has a sleepwalking problem. His animal apartment-building neighbors follow along to keep him safe, but after Louis almost walks off a cliff, they come up with a more creative solution. The friends' continued love and support for Louis (even after he sleepwalks on their food and through their clean laundry) is heartwarming without being didactic. Pastel-colored illustrations prominently feature Louis's silly snoozing-antics.

Swallows Pippi and Burt, two of ten siblings, are cramped in the family nest. Every nice-looking prospective new home (e.g., "It's BIG and sturdy!") turns out to be part of an animal's body (Pippi and Burt realize that they're standing on a turtle's back). The "gotcha" premise is well served by the Easter-egg-colored art, which features a fetchingly birdbrained cast.

Young angler Stella plans to catch the Great Googly Moogly, which is rumored to be monstrous. Through tenacity she succeeds--no surprise; what's unexpected is that her conquest is about as monstrous as a tadpole. The story prompts conscientiousness--"Was the Googly Moogly hers to keep?"--although the ending is limp. Dicmas's Stella favorably recalls one of Jules Feiffer's dancers.

Harold the parrot can mimic all the sounds in Apartment 4B in Paris: alarm clock, television, blender. Tired of repeating the same old noises, Harold escapes and discovers a world "full of beautiful sounds." Striving for his own "voice," his call produces like-feathered friends. Energetic, uniquely composed illustrations in a rainbow palette perfect for vibrant plumage complement the colorful storytelling.
