The use of Lawrence's paintings both to illustrate significant points in his life as well as to show his artistic accomplishment adds a great deal to a text that is readable and informative. This visually striking, well-researched biography of one of the premier African-American artists of the contemporary era will be a welcome addition to school and public libraries. Bib.
