A guessing-game approach enlivens these simple books. A zoomed-in photo of a rump or eye appears on each of sixteen large flaps without text; when lifted, the flap reveals the animal owning that body part, along with a bit of information about each one. Eight smaller flaps with additional examples conclude these catchy and colorful but superficial volumes. Review covers these titles: Who's Looking at You? and Tushes & Tails!.

Tsering, a Nepalese boy, wants to be worthy of his dead father. On returning from a monastery (where an intriguing traditional healing takes place), Tsering attempts to traverse the dangerous mountain pass where his father died. The story's construction is unwieldy, but the cultural details are appealing. In particular, the tang-ka paintings with their stylized hair, waves, and rocks draw the eye.

Vivid, captioned photos and scattered silhouettes illustrate this cat primer. Each two-page spread, often featuring four color photos, discusses a different topic, from newborn kittens to cats' hunting ability. The information is accurate but somewhat desultory in presentation. A list of questions followed by the page number on which the answer appears functions as an index.
