A thunderstorm carries a pumpkin from a farm to an island near town. Soon, vines creep across a bridge and pumpkins begin "popping up all over town." As the pumpkins grow in number and size, the townspeople find creative uses for them: pumpkin-flinging contests, pumpkin boats and houses, and the "biggest Halloween celebration ever" lit by jack-o'-lantern light. Geisert's copperplate etchings hand-colored with watercolors depict expansive, whimsical scenes with much to explore.

Saturday afternoon the clouds roll in. A farm family prepares for the storm, loading hay bales and bringing in the laundry while animals across the countryside take shelter. Geisert's expansive full-spread etchings expertly capture the destructive power of a Midwestern storm, from the first strike of lightning to the intensity of gale force wind to utter devastation to, gloriously, a community rebuilding.

The same community of pigs from Ice is threatened again--this time, by a volcano. The pigs plant and tend a giant dandelion, which goes to seed just in time for all the inhabitants to catch rides on the seed-bearing parachutes to the next island over. Geisert's signature etchings on the wordless double-page spreads provide a wonderfully panoramic view.

What are the porcine inhabitants of a tiny desert island to do when their fresh water supply is nearly gone? Set off in search of an iceberg, of course! With nary a word, Geisert's whimsical book tracks the plight and triumph of his thirsty, heat-plagued characters. His trademark illustrations, full of detailed line work and lots of gentle humor, fully convey the robust, inventive narrative.

Geisert combines a fresh look at modern family farming in the Midwest with an unerring eye for detail. The continuous sixty-four-page panorama follows a road from the city into the country. As we travel, day is followed by night--and summer is followed by fall, and then winter. Geisert's fine intaglio line with delicate watercolor is ideally suited to both close-ups and wide vistas. Glos.

After frolicking in a paint factory, the pig children are filthy. Their broom-wielding mothers herd them to the hogwash, where they're washed and dried through a series of highly detailed processes involving ingenious contraptions. The story is wordless, and Geisert's watercolor and pen-and-ink pictures invite readers to trace the mechanical connections in this tantalizing, quirkily dignified, and joyous world.

A piglet spills his milk, setting off a mildly amusing Rube Goldberg–style chain reaction (a buffer tool catches a clothesline that snags a table saw that cuts through a major support beam) that ends up demolishing his family's hillside home. Amazingly, the pigs survive unscathed. Precise architectural etchings tell the story--though sometimes not very clearly--in this wordless picture book.

When the pirating Pigaroons steal the block of ice the River Patrollers use for their annual Ice Festival ice sculpture, the River Patrollers come up with a plan (involving a flying ship, a giant magnifying glass, and melting) to get back at them. In Geisert's signature etchings the frozen northern setting provides background for the offbeat and funny story's frenzy of piggy activity.

After a flood carries their town's colossal ball of string downriver to Cornwall, the young pig citizens of Rumpus Ridge come up with an ingenious way to retrieve it from the Cornwallians, who intend to keep it for themselves. Geisert accompanies his matter-of-fact narrative with meticulous, delicately colored illustrations that show the pigs' complex, preposterous scheme in amusing detail.

Pigs Jambo and Marva are skilled topiarists, and every fall their nursery's turkey-shaped topiaries are in high demand. When their trees are stolen, however, efforts to catch the thief are thwarted until Marva devises a way to expose him. The narrative is about as lively as an actual crime report, but Geisert's illustrations are rich with detail and have a pleasingly old-fashioned quality.
