Twining flowers bedeck every page of this dainty confection of a book. Gibb's papercut-like silhouettes are elaborate, if slightly stiff, and colored in ethereal pinks and purples, except in darker moments. Vignettes balance lavish full- and double-page spreads. The sentimental but serviceable text, featuring tiny fairies and a recurring motif of roses, draws from the Grimms, Perrault, and Disney.

In this version based on the Grimms' tale, Rapunzel's animal friends aid her in exile and she cures the blinded prince with her magical tears. With their enchanting details, Gibb's illustrations invite careful exploration. The juxtaposition of floral pinks and pastels with haunting silhouettes creates a mysterious tonality befitting a Grimms' fairy tale.
