A small mouse packs her suitcase and embarks on a journey--on bikes, trains, and buses; in the air and under the sea; through gardens and city streets; and finally home again. Double-page spreads, packed with detail, action, and color, follow her travels; the seemingly unrelated scenes all include the mouse (and suitcase!) for viewers to find. With a jaunty and interactive rhyming text, this cheerful there-and-back-again adventure is also an excellent color-concept book for the very youngest.

Sadie loves her sparkly silver shoes so much that she keeps wearing one after losing its mate. Then Sadie meets Ellie, who has a silver shoe just like Sadie's--the very one, in fact, that Sadie lost--so Sadie decides they'll share the shoes. Colorful watercolor and collage art alternates vignettes of home and school life with the lost shoe's journey. A satisfying celebration of individuality, friendship, and footwear fidelity.

This Australian import begins by setting the scene: "There's going to be a party" for a baby's first birthday. A spare, lilting text introduces the guests with humor and warmth. As the party progresses, cheerful (and realistic) baby-sized mayhem ensues. The day ends with a bath, bedtime, and "sweet dreams" for the birthday baby. Inviting, scribbly pencil and watercolor-wash illustrations on generous white space allow for lots of audience engagement.

When twelve-year-old Grace goes missing in an ocean storm, two bystanders--troubled teen Kip and burned-out rocker Ted--are sucked into the investigation while Grace's sister Annie deals with guilt and worry. Though the perspective rotates between Kip, Annie, and occasionally Grace, Kip's is the dominant voice, creating a distracting imbalance. Nevertheless, the ticking-clock tension makes for an absorbing read.
