A semi-obscene Claymation project, popular-girl prom date, and mostly closeted best friend make it difficult for Mitchell to maintain his reputation as an anonymous nerd. Despite heartbreak and humiliation, Mitchell survives the school year and figures out what friendship is really about. Dry wit artfully mingles with poignancy in this well-done novel about masculine identity and first love.
