Violet tells a "Little Red Riding Hood"–inspired story with herself and toddler brother as main characters. She dramatically narrates "a journey fraught with danger and peril" as they make their way to a sick neighbor's apartment to deliver soup and cookies. The mixed-media illustrations play along, bringing Violet's vivid storytelling to life in the ordinary apartment-building setting.

In this takeoff on the classic counting song "Over in the Meadow," moonrise brings out a succession of monsters (werewolves, mummies, zombies, goblins, etc.), all heading to "your door." Although the text can feel quite menacing, the sweet and benign digital illustrations prepare readers for a comforting ending in which "you" (an unflappable, motherly little girl) tuck all the ghouls into bed at sunrise.
