(3) YA Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi series. Sixteen-year-old Princess Leia is training to pass three rigorous challenges so she can be decreed rightful heir to Alderaan's throne. But she also desires to help her parents as they secretly develop a rebellion against the Empire. Gray compellingly fills in Leia's backstory with friendships and a romantic relationship, and through her protagonist's courageous actions, Gray repeatedly hints at the great leader Leia will eventually become.

(3) YA Following Ten Thousand Skies Above You, the stakes have never been higher for Marguerite as she races through parallel dimensions to stop the evil organization Triad and her most dangerous opponent yet--an alternate version of herself who is determined to kill every Marguerite who opposes her. The gripping plot gains nuance from the thoughtful explorations of self-determination and destiny.

Teenage witch Nadia (Spellcaster; Steadfast), bound to serve the evil Elizabeth and the One Beneath, must save her Steadfast Mateo, her friends, and the whole town of Captive's Sound from falling apart. Gray delves more deeply into the characters and the complex structure of magic in this third book, creating a tightly woven conclusion to the series.

But Thane becomes disillusioned and joins the Rebellion, forcing Ciena to choose between her loyalty to the Empire and the friend she loves. Setting up events of the franchise's latest film, The Force Awakens, the fast-paced story seamlessly builds onto the Star Wars universe.

A gripping plot melds suspense and self-reflection as Marguerite races through uniquely realized worlds, battling an evil multi-dimensional corporation while grappling with probing philosophical questions.

(3) YA When Marguerite's physicist father is murdered, she must use her parents' invention, the Firebird, to chase Paul, his ex-protégé and killer, through parallel dimensions. When she meets other versions of Paul, however, she begins to question his guilt. Excellently paced and filled with satisfying twists, this sci-fi thriller distinguishes itself with a thoughtful examination of loss, love, and moral ambiguity.

(4) YA This sequel to Spellcaster picks up shortly after Nadia, Mateo, and Verlaine saved the town of Captive's Sound from evil witch Elizabeth. In addition to fighting their own inner demons, the teens now must battle Elizabeth and her attractive demon helper. While the magical system Gray creates is fascinating, the characters are rather two-dimensional. Fans of L. J. Smith's Secret Circle books will enjoy this series.

When Nadia's family moves to mysterious Captive's Sound, a Rhode Island town under a dark spell, she discovers only she can save her love interest Mateo's family from an old curse. Despite the forced romance and some clichés, Gray's world-building and complex magical system will hook readers.

(3) YA Skye Tierney's newfound ability to see the dead brings her misery--and the attention of vampires craving her psychic blood. Her old Evernight Academy classmate and crush, vampire Balthazar, volunteers to protect her even though experience tells him vampires and humans don't mix. Skye and Balthazar's alternating narratives, as well as Balthazar's anguished historical flashbacks, keep pages turning in this supernatural romance.

(4) YA Born-vampire Bianca (Evernight, Stargazer, Hourglass) and former vampire-hunter Lucas struggle with a new development in their ill-fated relationship: Lucas has become a vampire and Bianca a wraith. The now-undead couple returns to Evernight, but a scheme to restore vampires' humanity endangers Bianca. Though the prose remains overwrought, the pair's travails and triumphs are satisfying; Gray's world building is consistently strong.

(3) YA Tess is a servant for the Lisles, upper-class Brits traveling to the States--aboard the Titanic--to marry off bashful daughter Irene. Steel heir Alexander Marlowe seems a likely candidate for a match. Unfortunately, he's a werewolf--a secret Tess discovers while falling in love with him. Gray (keeping a remarkably straight face) creates a compelling story line around the seemingly doomed lovers.

(4) YA Bianca and Lucas, the star-crossed lovers of Evernight and Stargazer, must escape the antivampire Black Cross vigilantes when Bianca's secret--she's a born vampire--is discovered. With vampires also on their trail, the pair question what the future holds for a vampire who refuses to make a kill and an ex-vampire hunter. The angst-heavy story's cliffhanger ending will leave Gray’s fans eager for more.

(4) YA Vampire-in-training Bianca (Evernight) is back at boarding school, investigating its suspicious new policy of admitting humans. Meanwhile, love interest Lucas continues to hunt vampires with vigilante group Black Cross. A friend's long-undead sister complicates their already ill-fated relationship. Though the appearance of ghouls seems an unnecessary addition to a series already full of vampire intrigue, it won't deter fans of supernatural romance.

(4) YA Bianca's creepy new school is full of sharply beautiful students with unsettling habits. Turns out they're vampires. The twist is, so is she (sort of), and the only one who doesn't know is her boyfriend--an undercover vampire hunter. The tale of star-crossed lovers unfolds with predictable angst, but Gray makes clever use of the school-story and vampire formulas.
