(3) K-3 Illustrated by Mike Lowery. Prince and Pirate, both fish, are forced to share a fish tank, but their oversize personalities clash. When a new fish arrives, the former enemies band together to welcome him. The adversaries' back-and-forth banter is full of royal and swashbuckling exclamations, perfect for reading aloud. The colorful and amiable illustrations--with an inside-the-tank perspective--buoy the humor and drama.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Kevan J. Atteberry. On his way to Ghost's party, dressed in his hippest outfit and ready to dance, clumsy Skeleton keeps tripping and falling to pieces. Luckily his monster friends are there to jury-rig him back together with rubber bands and tape. The Photoshop illustrations have a hand-drawn feel, complete with crosshatching. Skeleton's winning smile and resilience make him easy to root for.
