Although the plot is thin, the good spirits and elegantly detailed illustrations will be welcomed by Angelina's fans.

The story is smoothly told, and there's no quibble with Craig's crosshatched art in decorous colors, but readers familiar with the Angelina books will be able to sniff out this tale's resolution from the first few pages.

They brave it out through darkness, a storm, and, by their own estimates, a near brush with Big Cat. While not terribly original, the story has drama, adventure, and a cozy ending. Newcomers and Angelina fans alike will be charmed by Holabird's spunky heroine and Craig's delicate illustrations.
