Tetra gives users a nine-minute burst of incredible speed and strength, which many abuse for illegal purposes. The drug's detrimental effects hit bodies past adolescence; Tetra-fueled Alana is part of a task force to catch drug-enhanced criminals and an underground Tetra ring before she ages out. Uneven pacing is a negative side effect of this high-octane thriller.

When he stumbles upon proof that there might be actual living trees in the world, Banyan sets out into the dangerous wasteland with a motley crew to find them. Tight narration prevents this action-packed book's complex plot from being confusing.
