An enforced stint at a Christian camp affects Riley, a professed atheist and unapologetic fat girl (though she doesn't look it on the book jacket), in ways she doesn't expect. Funny, acerbic first-person narration and a sharply observed cast of supporting characters, including Riley's equally cynical wheelchair-using love interest, enliven this exploration of faith.

Best friends Gem, Lo, and Mira film an Andy Warhol–inspired underground movie. Things get out of hand when Mira, at Lo's prompting and high on mushrooms, gets naked for the camera, then makes out with Gem's crush. Though Australian slang makes the dialogue hard to follow and the plot is issue-laden, Gem's desire to fit in while maintaining her identity is believable.
