Sammy doesn't think she'll ever leave Lake Bittersweet, Oklahoma, but at least summer is looking up after she meets charismatic visiting city-boy Brayton. Then Sammy's ex-con father disappears, and the teen sets out for answers and vengeance while trying to keep her six-year-old half-sister--and Brayton--in her life. Two-dimensional characters nevertheless have a roughness that feels at home in the well-evoked gritty setting.

Many-Worlds series.
This second installment of the sci-fi/romance saga starts slowly but gains momentum when Sasha returns to parallel universe Aurora to cut the "tether" that binds her thoughts and emotions to her look-alike analogs. "People are dying on the battlefront and rioting at home" in dystopic Aurora, and Sasha hopes to reunite with Thomas there. Tandem fans will enjoy the characters' further adventures.

Many-Worlds series.
Sixteen-year-old Sasha finds herself in a universe parallel to Earth, having to impersonate her "analog," Princess Juliana, in order to keep the alternate nation's peace and get herself home to her own world. To complicate matters, and adding to the fun, Sasha also finds herself torn between two loves. A promising start to the romantic sci-fi series.

Hannah, the sister she barely remembers, abruptly moves home after eight years away, and Caro doesn't know how to ask about where she's been. When lying to her friends about it only leads to the fracturing of her own relationships, Caro must face Hannah's past and the secrets it holds. Alternately insightful and believably immature, Caro is a strong narrator for this introspective story.

A year after Carly's murder, her ex-boyfriend Neily and friend Audrey team up to find her killer. Their investigation exposes unsettling secrets about her final months. Jarzab's deft construction of alternating narratives by Neily and Audrey reveals not only Carly's mysterious last days but also the characters' relationships with one another. The murder mystery, while suspenseful, is not as well developed as the fully realized characters.
