A polliwog observes a caterpillar for days to learn how to turn into a butterfly. What the polliwog doesn't notice--and the brightly colored illustrations clearly show--is that he is changing, too. The illustrations will engage a younger audience, but the board book's small size struggles to accommodate the long text.

When Billy Bixbee wakes up and finds a dragon in his room, his mother tells him there's no such thing. The neglected dragon grows larger and larger, eventually walking off with the house, and the Bixbee family is forced to admit his existence. Practically a classic in paperback for its neat story line and humorous cartoons of expressively surprised characters, this hardcover edition is welcome indeed.

After seeing a picture in a book of the cow jumping over the moon, Mrs. Mooley, a cow, defies barnyard scoffers to practice jumping for her big moment. By dawn, her determination pays off as the moon is setting and the other animals wake to see her final jump carry her "over" the moon. The premise is strung out to fill the pages, but the mild lesson goes down easily. Kent's loose barnyard cartoons illustrate the book.
