Wonder Woman Mythology series.
These books describe the various good and evil mythological beings linked to Wonder Woman lore. Characters' actual mythological backgrounds are the main focus, with much shorter portions describing their connections to the superhero. Unfortunately, the art lacks cohesion; Wonder Woman is depicted in her modern cartoon form while everything else is a strange mix of photographic and illustrated styles. Reading list. Glos., ind. Review covers these Wonder Woman Mythology titles: Wonder Woman and the Heroes of Myth and Wonder Woman and the Villains of Myth.

Batman & Robin Crime Scene Investigations series.
Illustrated by
Dario Brizuela.
Batman and Robin use their scientific knowledge of fingerprint analysis (Thieves) and fire investigation (Flames) to track down stolen volumes of Shakespeare and catch an arsonist, respectively. Cartoon illustrations and mildly engaging mysteries add interest to this mid-elementary series, but the scientific explanations feel rather forced and the font is small. "More About" pages are appended to each. Reading list. Glos., ind. Review covers these Batman & Robin Crime Scene Investigations titles: The Felon's Fowl Flames and The Prints of Thieves.

DC Super-Pets Origin Stories series.
Illustrated by
Art Baltazar.
"Every super hero needs a super-pet!" begins these origin stories bringing a superhero and animal helper together--Wonder Woman with her super-jumping Amazonian kangaroo (in Jumpa) and Batman with his happy-go-lucky lost dog (in Ace). With their super-cartoony illustrations, these slight, large-format stories--in which the creatures play vital crime-fighting roles--should appeal to young animal-loving superhero fans. Silly jokes are appended. Glos. Review covers these DC Super-Pets Origin Stories titles: Ace! and Jumpa!

Scooby-Doo! Comic Chapter Books series.
Illustrated by
Scott Neely.
Scooby-Doo and the gang investigate a theater-haunting ghost and an animal spirit disrupting an archaeological dig in a hybrid series that mixes prose with comic-book art. All the elements of a Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. story are present: fast-paced action, slapstick comedy, and supernatural hoaxes; however, the text-heavy hybrid format feels unbalanced, resulting in a disjointed reading experience. Includes extension questions and jokes. Glos. Review covers the following Scooby-Doo! Comic Chapter Books titles: Curse of the Stage Fright and Legend of the Gator Man.
