Villager after villager joins in the chase, until the egg cracks and out pops a baby dragon. Suddenly, the chase is reversed as baby flies home to Mama. A minimal text tells the simplistic story; the pastel-toned illustrations will speak to fairy-tale fans.

(4) K-3 Step into Reading series. Illustrated by Pamela Silin-Palmer. A unicorn wishes he had wings. When he admires the wings of a butterfly, bluebird, and swan, they say that their wings aren't right for him. After healing a magical winged horse, he finally gets his wish. The simple, repetitive text works well for beginning readers, and the decorative, dreamy (although somewhat cheesy) illustrations complement the story's tone.
