Each spread features a large physical map of a region or country with the major cities noted. Surrounding the map are captioned color photos highlighting an area's culture, wildlife, or architecture, boxed "fact files," and occasional smaller maps indicating population, climate, and vegetation. Though the maps and clear photographs are good browsing, the additional information is random and superficial. Ind.

This atlas presents Earth from a far-overhead perspective so that the planet's image is spherical and provides a more accurate representation than a flat map. The preliminary pages contain information on the planet's dimensions, population, and climate--all well-explained in the text and helpful illustrations. The maps in the later half of the book are well rendered, but the accompanying information, supplemented by photos depicting specific cultures, is skimpy and pedestrian. Ind.
