The girl known here as "the orphan" seeks help at her mother's grave. Mother Nature and her children bring the girl gifts, including "delicate blue shoes." Potter grounds the action with figures whose faces convey universal emotions, their expressive body language arrayed on minimal, richly hued backgrounds.
