In this third volume, Hallie asserts control over her life as the secrets of her ability to manipulate time--and her parents' manipulation of her--become clear. A too-facile romance with Dune, a member of the mysterious, powerful Hourglass organization, eases her struggle. Witty dialogue often substitutes for character development, and the intriguing time-twisting elements require familiarity with Hourglass and Timepiece.

This sequel to Hourglass features Kaleb uncovering new mysteries about his family as well as learning more about his supernatural abilities. The time-travel element continues to be intriguing, but the rules are frustratingly fluid. Favorite characters from the first volume appear only intermittently, leaving Kaleb's developing romance with Lily as the story's strongest draw.

Emerson's disturbing tendency to see people from the past draws the attention of Michael, a "consultant" enlisted to help her with her problem. Michael can't resist romancing Emerson even as he explains her ability to time-travel and warns of the secretive groups that practice it. Emerson's discomfort and isolation are well portrayed in this haunting supernatural love story.
