Newfoundland folktales inspired this lengthy story of Jack, a lad thought a fool by his family for the kindness he shows to others. After setting out to find his missing brothers, he ends up rescuing a princess from the clutches of a magician. The paintings, set against Newfoundland's rugged landscape, mix the contemporary and the traditional in a rather odd fashion.

Earth of 2368 has been ravaged by environmental disaster and by the government's genocide of scientists and other educated people. In an authentic voice, sixteen-year-old orphan Blay relates the truth behind the lies she has been taught. McNaughton reveals a detailed, richly imagined dystopian future, mixing several disciplines of science and an appreciation of poetry in a believable character-driven novel.

In this historical fantasy set in the year 1162, Jenny, the daughter of a Scottish lord, is presented as a potential bride to the king's boorish brother, but her heart secretly belongs to Tam Lin, who is under the fairy queen's enchantment. Although the historical setting is fully realized, the fantasy elements are less believable, and Jenny's relationship with Tam, which results in a pregnancy, is underdeveloped.
