Five books about the endearing toddler bear are collected in this omnibus edition: On Your Potty! (1991), Eat Your Dinner! (1992), Go to Bed! (1993), Be Gentle! (1997), and I Love You Just the Way You Are (1998). The large, uncluttered illustrations are full of gentle humor, and, combined with the spare text, show an understanding of the emotions of very young children.

Bartholomew likes many things about his apple tree. "But best of all he loves counting the red apples.. . ." In a side panel on each double-page spread, Miller tallies the apples as they turn from green to red. Her expressive black line lends spontaneity to the simple illustrations. Despite an error ("one red apples"), this is another agreeable encounter with the young bear.

Little Bartholomew bear wants to play, but George is busy with his housework. Ba waits patiently, and when George is finally done, Ba suggests they play "bringing in the laundry" and "sweeping the floor" before they head outside for a picnic. Ba behaves like the toddlers for whom the book is designed, and the large, clear illustrations convey the affection between adult and baby bear.
