Including charts, editorial cartoons, and poorly reproduced black-and-white photos (some repeated in more than one volume), the formats are bland and uninteresting, but the topics may draw readers. Two volumes examining the problems of drug and alcohol abuse by teens in the United States cover the causes and consequences of drinking and drugging, as well as prevention efforts, treatment, and recovery. While much solid information is presented, pages crowded with text make the format unattractive. Both books include black-and-white photos, charts, and cartoons. 'Alcoholism' has a glossary.
