Freckleface Strawberry really wants to lose her first tooth at school so she can get the nurse's "NICE" tooth necklace that everyone else seems to have. Freckleface wiggles her "very, very loose" tooth all day, all over school; nothing. Success comes just as the day is almost over. Pham's expressive illustrations enhance Moore's easy-to-read, relatable story.

It's a new school year, and Freckleface Strawberry's friend Windy Pants Patrick can't remember to check his outdoor voice at the door. His outbursts aren't played just for laughs, though: by book's end, Patrick has found a constructive use for his pipes. As with the other Freckleface books, the story's instructive aspect goes down easy via Pham's brush-pen cartoon art.

Freckleface Strawberry is now best friends with former bully Windy Pants Patrick. When kids at school point out how dissimilar they are (e.g., girl and boy), they stop playing together--until realizing that their similarities outweigh their differences. Pham's illustrations highlight the kids' opposite physical appearances while amusingly emphasizing the importance of their mutual hobbies, such as playing monsters.

In this follow-up to Freckleface Strawberry, the spunky redheaded protagonist must contend with Windy Pants Patrick, whose bullying makes rainy-day indoor dodgeball games a source of dread. Moore's effort is sturdier this time around: the plotting is deft and doesn't seem over-tethered to personal experience. Once again, Pham's digitally colored brush-pen art gets to the heart of Freckleface's troubles.

A girl nicknamed Freckleface Strawberry takes drastic measures to expunge the distinguishing marks from her face, finally resorting to wearing a ski mask in hopes of averting comments. This celebrity-penned "be yourself" story, based on Moore's own childhood experiences with teasing, rises above other similar efforts mostly due to Pham's warmly expressive thick-lined brush pen illustrations.
