A mother and child discuss major mountain types and the geological processes--such as plate tectonics, volcanic activity, and erosion--that produce them. The stylized illustrations use vibrant color and pattern to represent the layers of rock that make up mountains and surrounding environs. There are some liberties taken in color and scale, but they don't detract from the conceptual accuracy.
